Oak Ridge, NC Real Estate

Oak Ridge, North Carolina began as a small, rural farming community in the Northwest corner of Guilford County established around the Oak Ridge Military Academy. Although the school was built in 1852, the town of Oak Ridge was not incorporated until 1998. Since those early days, Oak Ridge has experienced tremendous growth. Oak Ridge is a much sought after community in which to live and raise a family.

Oak Ridge Military Academy is a private, coed, college-preparatory boarding school. It is the third oldest military school in the United States still in operation. It is also the official military school of North Carolina, as recognized by the State legislature and provides instruction for students in grades 6–12.

The Oak Ridge Easter Horse Show has been an annual event since 1945. It is held to raise funds for community projects and is a great family fun event. Oak Ridge also has an 80-acre Town Park off of Linville Road, built in 2007.

A tour of Oak Ridge should always include the Old Mill of Guilford, dating back to the late 18th century. This working mill is one of the oldest in the United States still operating commercially. Locals frequent the mill to purchase corn meal, flour and natural stone ground grits.

Oak Ridge is a prosperous suburb of Greensboro. The open, rolling farm land of Oak Ridge has been thoughtfully developed to include well-planned neighborhoods and subdivisions and it continues to evolve as dining, retail and other shopping amenities are added to enhance the growth of the community.
